Dear Mr. Daniel B.

I read your book today. I was so moved by it that when I finally finished reading it, I knew I had to write to you. It is not very often that I come across something that can make me feel what your book did. I am truly awed by your writing.

I cannot place why, but there is something about your story that draws me in, and reminds me of things I cannot remember. There is a familiarity that I cannot place, but perhaps it is merely because we have all once had a friend: one who meant more than the world; a friend, whose loss is felt years and years after they have exited our lives.

I feel I must ask where you get your inspiration. I cannot imagine how someone could create such a story from nothing. Did you draw from your own life or someone else’s? Or maybe both? There are parts within your story that I felt so devastated myself that I cannot imagine them actually occurring. Or maybe it is that I hope they are entirely fictional, for no one should ever have to live through that pain.

Respectfully yours,

Maggie Darton
